Maha Ahmad, Ph.D. chosen to receive 2017 Olav Alvares Award

Dr. Maha Ahmad, assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical & Diagnostic Sciences, was selected to receive one of this year’s Olav Alvares Awards for Outstanding Articles by Junior Scholars Published in the Journal of Dental Education (JDE).  Dr. Ahmad will receive this major award at the ADEA annual session Opening Ceremony in March in Long Beach, CA.  The article is titled, “Use of High-Definition Audiovisual Technology in a Gross Anatomy Laboratory: Effect on Dental Students’ Learning Outcomes and Satisfaction,” and was co-authored with Naama H. Sleiman, M.S., Ph.D., adjunct instructor, Maureen Thomas, B.S., Nahid Kashani, D.D.S., M.S., clinical associate professor, chairperson Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences, and Marcia M. Ditmyer, Ph.D., M.C.H.E.S.

The Olav Alvares Award was named in honor of Dr. Olav Alvares, JDE editor from 2000 to 2009, to encourage junior scholars (assistant professors, instructors, residents, students, and staff) to conduct and publish outstanding research.  The JDE is published by ADEA and recognized as the premier journal for academic dentistry, covering critical issues in dental education, evidence-based dentistry, faculty development, interprofessional education, international perspectives and more.
