At this event, Carl Stone, D.D.S. ’80, M.A., M.B.A., M.A., associate professor, department of Restorative Dentistry, will be recognized for the Outstanding Faculty Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to dentistry and service to the profession. Throughout the years, Dr. Stone has served on a host of committees providing critical insight and cultivation of the School’s curriculum. Dr. Stone has lectured extensively both within and outside of Detroit Mercy Dental and has co-authored numerous articles on prosthodontics in a variety of dental journals including Quintessence International, Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, General Dentistry and the Journal of the Michigan Dental Association.
Benjamin Underwood, D.D.S. ’15, clinical instructor, department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences, will receive the M. David Campbell New Dentist Award. Dr. Underwood will be the first recipient of this award. The M. David Campbell New Dentist Award was established by the PFA Michigan Section to recognize a recent graduate who has been out of dental school for five or fewer years and has shown exceptional leadership in promoting dentistry. The award is named in honor of past Michigan Section PFA Chair, past PFA Foundation President and student mentor, Dr. M. David Campbell.
Dr. Underwood is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, the Macomb District Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. He serves as vice chair of the Michigan Dental Association’s Committee on Continuing Education. Dr. Underwood is a part-time associate in general dentistry practice in Warren, Michigan in addition to his role at Detroit Mercy Dental.
Congratulations to both for awards well-deserved!
